The BBC has commissioned The Last Detectives, a six-part crime drama set in the Pembrokeshire coastal town of Tenby. The series, previously known as Old Town Murders, is produced by Quay Street Productions for BBC One and BBC iPlayer in a co-commission with BBC Cymru Wales. First look images have now been released, introducing the investigative team at the heart of the new procedural.

The series follows DI Glyn Walsh, played by Mark Lewis Jones, and DS Sion Dearden, played by Steffan Rhodri, as they navigate a succession of murder cases. Their partnership is defined by an instinctive understanding that helps them uncover long-buried secrets beneath the town's picturesque surface. The duo is joined by DC Remy Jones (Bethan-Mary James), DC Neil Miller (Jordan Davies), and forensic biologist Pamela Thomas (Julie Graham). Each of the six 60-minute episodes spans a distinct case, exploring themes of second chances and personal crossroads as the characters confront fresh challenges. The narrative focuses on the two leads finding new beginnings after being thrust together by circumstance, blending witty dialogue with grounded character work.

Written, created, and executive produced by Matthew Barry, who also wrote Men Up and The Guest, the project is produced by Davina Earl and BAFTA-winning Nicola Shindler for Quay Street Productions, part of ITV Studios. Rebecca Ferguson serves as executive producer for the BBC, working alongside co-commissioner Nick Andrews for BBC Wales. Andy Newbery directs episodes one through four, while Rhys Carter takes the helm for the final two episodes. The production has received support from the Welsh Government via Creative Wales, and ITV Studios will handle international distribution. Hannah Daniel wrote episode four, and Guy Hescott is the series producer.
