BBC Studios has announced the principal cast for The Night They Vanished, a new six-part romantic thriller commissioned for Channel 4. The production, created by CliffEdge Entertainment in association with the network, stars Gabrielle Creevy and Callum Scott Howells in a story that weaves a love narrative with a ticking clock and dark domestic secrets.

The series follows Anna, played by Creevy, a fiercely protective woman living in Cardiff who discovers her childhood home listed on a true-crime website as the site of her family's future deaths. Cai, the site's operator and Anna's blind date, is portrayed by Howells. Although police dismiss the listing as a hoax, Anna's family vanishes, forcing her to return to a remote coastal village in South Wales. The narrative centres on the tension between Anna and Cai, who may be either the love of her life or the architect of a terrifying conspiracy. Supporting roles include Tamzin Outhwaite as Anna's stepmother and Steffan Rhodri as her father, a character who may hold the key to the mystery. Additional cast members include Matthew Gravelle, Lisa Victoria, Jack Quick, Andrew Lennon, Callum Hymers, and Bella Shewan.

The programme is written by Angharad Elen and Hannah Daniel, based on Vanessa Savage's novel of the same name. Elen, a Welsh writer, noted her pride in filming on her home turf to showcase local creative talent. Deborah Sathe, Chief Content Officer at CliffEdge Entertainment, oversaw the commissioning process. This marks the first international co-production for the unit, which previously produced The Light In The Hall and STAD. The series will be filmed in South Wales, utilising the region's coastal landscapes to heighten the atmospheric tension of the thriller.
